From Grandfather's Auctions to Director of Logistics: Meet Benjamin

Meet the Team: Ben Grafe

We're excited to introduce you to a key player on our Grafe Auction team—Benjamin Grafe, our Director of Logistics. With a rich background that includes growing up in the auction scene under his grandfather's guidance, serving in the United States Air Force, and a deep involvement in the tech aspect of auctioneering, Benjamin brings a unique blend of experience and enthusiasm to our team. A Minnesota native, he's a man of many talents and interests, from playing in a local hockey league to being an unofficial barista for our CMO/CTO. Today, we're diving into a Q&A session with him to get a closer look at what makes him tick and how he contributes to the evolving success of Grafe Auction.

What makes you most excited about working at Grafe Auction?

The most exciting part about working at Grafe Auction is being part of the process that I used to watch as a kid. When my Grandpa was still working, it was always fun to go and watch the auctions, and sometimes help out. It is also exciting to be able to work with some of the leaders in the auction space to enhance our process and platform

What do you enjoy most about what you do?

Working with the team we have is top of the list. We have amazing team members which always helps to make what I do go smoothly. I also enjoy being able to assist with some of the technology and platform upgrades we go through.

Is there a Grafe Auction initiative you’ve been involved with that you’re especially proud of?

The biggest initiative for me would be the transition to our mobile cataloging app which has been a fun process to go through. From early beta tests to now, it has been a great project, and still something that we continue to tweak and develop.

How does a typical day play out for you at Grafe Auction? What are you responsible for?

The day overall is a blend of preparing for future projects while overseeing current and completed events, and also working with our customers if they need assistance anywhere throughout the process. Client meetings for more complex projects will come into play every so often as well. Our CMO/CTO is also a Turtle Mocha fan so if he sees I am idle for a moment he will usher me to the espresso machine to make his favorite drink, but I have yet to add Barista to my title yet.

What’s a fun/interesting fact about you that most people don’t know?

For a side hobby I play in a local hockey league. I started last spring and it has been a really fun addition to the week!

How do you spend your free time?

I spend my free time at the gym, and spending time with family and friends. Doing house projects or reading as well. I always try to stay active with something and always enjoy trying new things.

What is the most unique item you’ve witnessed at auction?

The most unique item I’ve seen at auction was a Minnesota Wild themed custom chopper motorcycle.

Benjamin's journey—from watching his grandfather at auctions to becoming our Director of Logistics—reflects the commitment, skill, and passion we value at Grafe Auction. His role is pivotal in keeping the wheels turning smoothly, whether he's upgrading our mobile cataloging app or navigating the logistics of complex projects. When he's not fine-tuning the details of an auction or making Turtle Mochas, you'll find him staying active with family and friends, whether on the hockey rink or at the gym. His blend of technical know-how, dedication, and team spirit exemplifies the qualities that make Grafe Auction a leader in the industry. Thank you for getting to know Benjamin; we're proud to have him on our team and looking forward to what he'll help us achieve next.
